Meteor Garden is BACK!

By July 13, 2018Entertainment

TL;DR – Has it been 17 years already?

I remember it was year 2001 when Meteor Garden or F4 took the world by storm. For those who weren’t into Taiwanese dramas then, Meteor Garden is a Taiwanese Drama starring Barbie Shu, Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu and based loosely on Japanese manga series, Boys Over Flowers, written by Yoko Kamio.

The show is basically a teenage drama about four good-looking school kids with ridiculously high SES and the girl-next-door who comes from a humble family. The plot revolves around two of the four guys being involved in a love triangle with the girl (surprise, surprise) while the other two guys are just there to make the show look good.

This show single-handedly created four young men’s boyband career out of nothing – Jerry Yan, Vic Chou,Vanness Wu and Ken Chu or better known as F4.

I’m not a big fan of cheesy Taiwanese dramas so I seriously am not the best person to tell you how good the show is, however I can give you a sense on how popular the show was. Due to its popularity, they actually had a second season which is not exactly common for Taiwanese dramas, unlike their American counterparts. Besides Season Two, they also inspired multiple other versions of the show which includes Korean, Japanese, and even Indonesian remakes! And the four said individual did go on to have relatively successful careers in both acting and singing despite a seemingly lack of talent.

Fast forward to 2018, China is launching its very own 48-episodes version of the drama and it’s now available on NetFlix! I am not sure about you but I actually am looking forward to it.
