We Are Singapore is this year’s National Day Parade theme song

TL;DR – Old dog, new tricks.

Is National Day around the corner already?

And nope, you didn’t read the title wrongly. This year’s NDP theme song shares the same title as one of our favourite National Day classics, We are Singapore. This is because it’s a remake of the classic We are Singapore which was first written in 1987.

This remake is being performed by Charlie Lim, Vanessa Fernandez, Aisyah Aziz, Shak’thiya Subramaniamm, THELIONCITYBOY, Joanna Dong, and the ITE Show Choir.

Do you like it or hate it?

Do you think that it is super unoriginal that we do not have an original song for this year’s celebrations?

Well, in the wise words of our national treasure cum songwriter, Dick Lee, there is no need to have so many new songs.

“Why not bring old songs back on a more regular basis?”

This isn’t the first year that there is no new NDP song for the parade. In 2014, old songs such as the 1980s Stand Up For Singapore and the evergreen favourite, Home, were sang at the parade too.

Anyway, back to this year’s remake. From feedback, it seems that the blend of the old and new worked pretty well together despite the melodramatic introduction. Some people also really like the rap of our pledge by the THELIONCITYBOY.

What’s your take?
