Are Singaporeans still using British English?

By March 26, 2017Current

TL;DR – More than just Potayto, Potahto.

Do you know difference between Chips and French Fries? What about Cheque or Check? Lorry or Truck? Singapore was once a British colony and we are still using British English… Or are we not? We are watching more American shows these days, listening to American songs, using their computer systems and speaking to more people from countries using American English.

Does it still make sense then that we continue to use British English here in Singapore? Or should we make the switch from British to American English?

It’s not just a matter of spelling differences (gray vs grey) but here are some words that mean totally different things in British and American English.
