TL;DR – What happens when you move out of the White House?
In 3 days, the Obamas will move out of the White House where they have called home for the past 8 years but their new home ain’t too shabby either.
According to reports, they will be moving into this 8-bedroom, 761 sq m Tudor mansion (for reference, the standard 4 and 5-room HDB flats measure at 90 and 110 square metres respectively) in the Kalorama neighbourhood of Washington, D.C.
Originally from Chicago’s South Side, the family has decided to stay in D.C. so that their younger daughter Sasha can complete high school in the area.
The S$7.5 million mansion is owned by ex-White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart and rent is estimated to be $22,000 per month.
By the way, when Michelle Obama campaigned during her husband’s 2000 run for United States House of Representatives, her boss at the University of Chicago asked if there was any single thing about campaigning that she enjoyed. After some thought, she’d replied that visiting so many living rooms had given her some new decorating ideas.
Maybe this would be the time for her inner Extreme Makeover: Home Edition star to shine.
